Doris Fiedrich
I am primarily a photography-based artist with new directions in painting, mixed media and printmaking. All processes allow me to communicate intimately with the content and context of my imagery. Sometimes my process is preconceived and carefully planned, while at other times I appear to react spontaneously and intuitively to my environment as if guided by an inner spirit. The goal is the same: the expression of vision intertwined with visceral sensitiveness.
Many years of making portraits of families and individuals and as a dance photographer have provided me with a sense of character interpretation. My technical skills were acquired in formal studies and honed through practice, discipline and self-education. Since 2008, I have immersed myself in the study of art history and fine arts at Langara College in order to deepen my understanding of what art making means and to define myself as an artist. My work has been shown and collected since the early 90s.
