Lorraine Thomson
I was a dancer and a choreographer for fifteen years and have been painting for the past twelve years. In the visual realm, I have discovered how to make paint and paintings move. To this end, I am exploring layering, with acrylics, inks, gesso and foil, on canvas. The movement of colour fascinates me. I am looking for that elusive entity behind colour, shape, and gesture I want to light the space in front of a painting so that it becomes a place the viewer can enter.
I have a BA and MFA from Simon Fraser University, and have spent extensive time in Asia. For a year, I lived and studied art practices and culture in Indonesia, and was deeply influenced and affected by the relationship between artistic practice and spiritual sensibility. Vancouver is my home now, and my paintings are in many private collections. I welcome the opportunity to open my studio and new work to the public.
