Jodie Blaney

ABOUT Jodie

Since I first picked up my brushes fifteen years ago, I've been painting passionately, allowing my own Canadian west coast painting style and artistic expression to emerge with each new work. My landscape paintings are expressions of pure joy, wonder and awe, full of colour, movement and light.

"I move beyond realism when I paint. I prefer to work from memory and imagination rather than using reference photos. What I observe in nature unfolds on my canvas with real and imagined elements, and finding the balance between realism and abstraction is what brings me joy as a painter. Nature is always a reflection of what's inside us."

Artistic influences include Canadian artists Lawren Harris, A. J. Casson and Emily Carr, and Cubist Expressionism as reflected in the works of Picasso, Cezanne and Braque.

I am a UBC graduate and studied visual arts at Emily Carr University of Art & Design. As a self-representing full-time artist, I welcome visitors to my studio gallery in South Delta (near Ladner Village) by appointment. Commissions welcome.
