Mariko Ando
ABOUT mariko
I was born and raised in Osaka Japan. In 1999 moved from Japan to Vancouver, Canada. I create a vintage style Animal images etching print, I realized that the etching print is perfect technique for my imaginary worlds. I drew a lot by pen and ink, but the lines created by acid on the metal plate amazed me. I like to let people imaginations play when they see my work. I want to touch their hearts softly. I have 30 years experience as a freelance Illustrator and Printmaker (including working as an illustrator for a magazine publishing company for seven years). I’ve been a member of Malaspina Printmakers Society on Granville Island since 2002. My work is exhibited throughout Canada, USA, Australia, and Japan. I’ve exhibited in Visual Space Gallery, Lis Gallery in Toronto, Vancouver International Airport, Big Print Project, and Vancouver Mural Festival. I also illustrated the children’s books, “Peggy’s Impossible Tale” with text by award-winner Roy Miki and Slavia (Chocolate lily Award), and “The Princess Dolls” with text by award-winner Ellen Schwartz.
